Provincial security plan formalized in Uruzgan.
The formalized security plan for Uruzgan was developed through the cooperation of security agencies in early March. The authors and signatories of the plan were Uruzgans Governor Assadullah Hamdam, Chief of Police General Juma Gul, Commander of the National Directorate of Security General Director Zakharyia Aziz, Commander of the 4th Afghan National Army (ANA) Brigade General Abdul Hamid, Commander of Task Force Uruzgan (TFU) Brigadier General Tom Middendorp, and TFU civilian representative Joep Wijnands.
Formalizing Uruzgans security plan demonstrates the positive steps taken towards increasing Afghan authorities responsibility for security. This signing of the plan is an historic moment. By signing this declaration, we mark the next step for the Afghan National Army, Afghan National Police (ANP) and the National Directorate of Security, said Brigadier General Middendorp.
These agencies commit to increased cooperation with each other and adopt greater responsibility for security in Uruzgan. The declaration outlines a greater ANP role in terms of community policing. While police will show a greater presence in the villages, the ANA will focus on the outer rural areas. The plan has already resulted in increased cooperation between security forces in Uruzgan.
