Providence Presbyterian Church Announces a Dramatic Presentation of 'The Gospel of John' - Sunday, January 7.

Brad Sherrill Brings Live Off-Broadway and U.S. Touring Performance to Fairfax

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Providence Presbyterian Church, a church where life and faith connect, today announced a dramatic presentation of The Gospel of John presented by Brad Sherrill, to be held on Sunday, January 7. The performance will begin at 6:00 P.M., followed by a reception including refreshments and a time to meet the performer. Brad Sherrill has performed John's gospel over 400 times in professional theaters and churches across the U.S. and Canada.

This event, the third in the Music & Arts at Providence 2006-2007 season, features a one-man "live" performance of the fourth gospel in its entirety. With approximately a dozen simple props used in a variety of ways, Sherrill transforms the gospel into a drama, presenting the entire story of the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Since its premiere in 2000, The Gospel of John's 400 performances have included a six-week off-Broadway run at New York City's historic Lamb's Theatre (2003) and theater runs in Washington D.C., Toronto and Atlanta (from 2001-2005.) It has also been performed at Yale School of Divinity (2002), the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD (2004) and American and Catholic Universities in Washington D.C. (2005). In February 2007, it will make its theater debut at the Provision Theater Co. in Chicago.

"Providence is excited to welcome the very talented Mr. Sherrill to our church for this amazing show," stated The Reverend Albert Butzer, Pastor of Providence Presbyterian Church. "This captivating drama will present the life story of Jesus Christ in a dramatic fashion, enticing the community to come together for an evening of theatre performance with real meaning behind it."

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at door. Student prices are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets may be reserved for will call by contacting Mary Ellen Moss at 703-978-3934. Tickets may also be purchased at the church office between 9 am and 5 pm M-F, 9019 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax, Virginia.

In addition to the January 7 event, the remaining 2006-2007 series includes:

* February 11, 2007: "Joined at the Heart," an evening of love songs and duets (or perhaps "romantic music") from opera and musical theater with Linda Kiemel - soprano, Tricia Lepofsky - mezzo-soprano, Antonio Giuliano - tenor, and Kerry Wilkerson - baritone
