Protesting LHWs seek payment of salary.
GHALANAI -- A large number of local lady health workers (LHW) held a protest here on Thursday against non-payment of their salaries for the fast six months.
The protesting lady health workers gathered outside Mohmand Press Club and marched towards the agency headquarters Ghalanai.
They said that their services should be regularised like other staffers of health and other departments. They said that they had not been paid their salaries for the last six months. The protesting lady health workers blocked the main Peshawar-Bajur Road to traffic for some time. They said that they would not disperse till their demands were accepted.
However, later they dispersed peacefully.
Meanwhile, prolonged power outages have baldly affected routine life in Durbakhel and Ghazi Kore areas of Haleemzai tehsil in Mohmand Agency.
The residents of Durbakhel and Ghazi Kore held separate protests in their respective localities and demanded of the authorities to end irregular and unscheduled power loadshedding.
The protesters tribesmen said that 22 to 224 hours power loadshedding caused miseries for them in the winter. They said that prolonged power outages also caused acute shortage of drinking water in the area.
'Local people are compelled to utilise water of canals for domestic purpose in this modern era,' said Asad Khan, a resident of the area.
A tribal elder said that they would be forced to migrate from the area if power loadshedding continued.
The residents of Khwezai, Safi, Haleemzai, Pandiali and Ambar demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor and political agent to help in ending power outages in the region otherwise they would be compelled to launch protest.
