Protest at shop selling animal fur.

HIGH street retail chain Allsports is being targeted by animal rights protesters over its sale of anoraks trimmed with raccoon fur.

The Coalition to Abolish Fur Trade (CAFT) is staging a series of demonstrations over sales of the Helly Hansen brand coat by Allsports.

Louise Hale of CAFT, speaking at a protest outside Allsports' Liverpool store yesterday, said: ``We're not asking for the coats to be taken off the shelves we're just asking that the detachable fur trim be removed.

``We've had a great response from customers who have agreed not to shop at Allsports until they remove the fur from their stocks.

``Most people do not want to wear animal fur and we are asking customers to contact Allsports and register their protest.''

CAFT say raccoon fur is a commercial commodity in the USA, where wild animals are trapped and bred in factory farms.

A spokeswoman for Allsports said: ``It's company policy not to comment on this matter.

``However, we do look to stock garments which use imitation fur wherever possible.''
