Prospera[R] Launches PRO-III[TM] Advanced Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) System During Major Annual Wound Care Conference.

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Completing its 3rd NPWT system introduction in 14 months, Prospera([R]) Technologies, LLC today unveiled the Prospera PRO-III[TM] during the 22nd Annual Symposium on Advanced Wound Care and Wound Healing Society meeting in Dallas, Texas. The PRO-III represents the next evolutionary step in the company's line of systems, which offer the unique variable pressure therapy (VPT([R])) protocol to optimize healing, combined with multiple new features for improving patient comfort, compliance, usability and safety.

The PRO-III contains a proprietary Dual Filtration System (DFS[TM]) safety feature that provides a double filter protection against system and pump contamination. For patients, suppliers, and institutions, the PRO-III represents an additional layer of safety and security. In the hospital setting, where the demand for extra protection keeps growing, the PRO-III addresses a top priority. The product is the latest extension of Prospera's commitment to safety.

"We always put the patient first, and with the PRO-III, we've added the extra filter protection along with a number of other innovative features that our colleagues and caregivers on the front lines asked us to include," said Cindy Ahearn, MS, RN, ET, CWCN, FNP-C, Clinical Director of Prospera and a wound care veteran of 30 years. "The PRO-III delivers the same accuracy and reliability people have come to expect from the entire PRO series, with improvements that represent a major leap forward for NPWT."

Based on the most recent research, Prospera recommends NPWT at lower negative pressures than the -125 mmHg that has traditionally been applied. Lower pressures cause less pain and discomfort, and lower the risk of tissue ischemia at the wound edge. The systems also deliver variable pressure therapy (VPT([R])) which offers gentle, wave-like rhythmic perfusion to the wound bed. In variable NPWT, two alternating pressure levels are used, but negative pressure is always maintained, without a drop to 0 mmHg. The VPT([R]) protocol delivers the benefits of intermittent therapy (improved blood flow, granulation tissue quality, and physical effects on cells), while avoiding the painful spikes associated with pressure surges and pressure drops to 0 mmHg.

"The new patent pending DFS[TM] safety feature in the PRO-III is one-of-a-kind," Ms. Ahearn explained. "Other systems contain only a single filter to protect the pump against contamination with fluids or gaseous vapor. That filter is often external, located between the pump and canister. If for any unforeseen reason a system of that type is used without the filter, there is no built-in protection for the pump's internal components. The potential for cross-contamination is great, as pumps are redistributed for use by other patients."

She added, "In the PRO-III, we installed a second filter, located inside the pump, for redundancy and improved safety. The design not only provides a second level of physical protection, but the system actually shuts down automatically if either filter is for any reason exposed to contaminated fluid."

The new system includes a large, color-coded screen, similar to the PRO-II portable model launched in October of 2008, which provides information in green, yellow, and red. The PRO-III is virtually silent in operation. The new unit weighs less than 5 lbs, making it ideal for both stationary and portable use.
