Project of construction of Vanadzor-Fioletovo railway branch line estimated at 250-500 mln USD.

Yerevan. The cost of the construction project of the Vanadzor-Fioletovo railway branch line (32 km) in Armenia ranges from

250 mln to 500 mln USD, Viktor Rebets, Director General of South Caucasus Railway (SCR) CJSC, told journalists on Friday.

He said that there are several projects and the cost of the branch line depends on the length and the route. Rebets said that the

construction of the railroad is connected with a big volume of work, as the railroad will be laid in the mountainous terrain and it will be

necessary to build bridges and tunnels. He pointed out that from the technical viewpoint the railroad may be built within 2 years, but it is

a matter of economic expediency.

Rebets said that it is hard to speak of the construction period until the payback period and the economic benefit are estimated.

Many parameters will depend on the cargo flow and the demand for the branch line. "The current volumes do not let us make optimistic

forecasts", he said.
