Progress on polio eradication discussed.

ISLAMABAD -- The meeting of the National Steering Committee (NSC) Friday discussed the progress of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) towards the polio eradication. Federal Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani chaired the meeting.

The provincial managers of the EPI on routine immunization and measles briefed the updates of the program. Subsequently, a brief presentation on surveillance and lab update regarding Polio was given.

It has also been decided in the meeting that SNID would be prepared from June 4 to June 6, 2012. The National Steering Committee meeting is being held weekly and is attended by the representatives of the international donors' organisations.

It is pertinent to mention here that the NSC is a technical Advisory Body to formulate policy guidelines for Polio eradication initiatives and the routine immunization activities carried out in the provinces. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Inter-Provincial Coordination Anis-ul-Hasnain Musavi, the representatives of WHO, UNICEF, JICA, Rotary International and World Bank.
