SDC supports volunteerism for development and peace through its general contribution to the program of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV). SDC provides young Swiss university to act for development and peace in UN organizations and gain experience in development cooperation within an organization. It funds each year an average of 10 positions UNV volunteer trainees.

Context: UNV Programme complements the activities of the UN system, particularly UNDP mobilizing volunteers contributing to the development and maintenance of peace. Following a resolution in December 2012 the General Assembly of the United Nations has asked the UN Volunteers to promote youth volunteering and actors of international cooperation to actively support this commitment. UNV is currently developing a youth strategy as part of the Volunteer Programme trainees which SDC participates.

Goal: Promote volunteerism for development.

Enable young Swiss academics interested in a career in development cooperation to gain valuable experience within a multilateral organization.

Outcomes: UNV is implementing its new strategic framework 2014-2017 to enhance and strengthen the integration of volunteerism for development and peace.

10 young Swiss university are set to 12-month assignment with priority for SDC UN agencies (UNDP, UNICEF, UN-Women, UNFPA, WHO, WFP, UNHCR, UNAIDS, IFAD, UNRWA and OCHA).

Cinfo is positioned as recognized UN organizations in mobilizing Swiss human resources partner.

Implementing partner: UNV as through the UN system for the provision of internship positions and logistics / mobilization of volunteers. Cinfo as focal for the promotion of volunteerism and UNV with Swiss candidates and recruiting candidates Swiss point value.
