Profile measurement system delivers accuracy of [+ or -] 0.03% of field-of-view.

The Profile360 profile measurement system is said to deliver accuracy of [+ or -] 0.03% of the system field-of-view. This is said to equate to 0.015 mm (0.0006") accuracy for a 50 mm (2") system. Available field-of-view sizes are 25, 50, 75, 100 and 150 ram. The system accuracy expresses the capability to measure small changes (variation) in the profile during production.

The company is said to have significantly improved the Profile360 absolute accuracy through enhancements in optics and calibration methods. The absolute accuracy has been improved by a factor of two, down to [+ or -] 0.1% of the system field-of-view size. This is said to result in an absolute accuracy of 0.5 mm (0.002") for the 50 mm (2") system. The absolute accuracy speaks to the maximum amount of error present in any single measurement of a profile located anywhere in the field-of view.

The Profile360 is an on-line profile measurement system that displays the real-time profile compared to the nominal print, and records key dimensions. It has been widely used in industries such as automotive trim, automotive seal, wire, extruded door and window, extruded plastic and rubber gaskets, according to the company.

The firm also offers a lower-cost addition to its off-line extrusion Profilometer, the ProfilometerSL. The system uses the company's sheet-of-light (SL) laser scanning sensors to digitize the top and bottom of an extrusion profile. Once digitized, the data are displayed in the same ProfileViewer software used by the off-line Profilometer, which is said to be used by 10 of the top 12 tire makers.
