Professional Cable Supporting Hydrocephalus Walk in Salt Lake City.

Orem, UT, September 12, 2014 --( When Jason Bringhurst started Professional Cable in Orem, back in 2007, he had never heard of hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is when there is a blockage of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and it cannot drain. If not treated, it can cause brain damage and eventually death.

On February 18, 2012, Mr. Bringhurst's son Xavier Bringhurst was born at 28 weeks, 12 weeks premature. Preemies born this early often have brain bleeds which scar the brain's ventricles blocking the CSF from draining properly. This is what happened to Xavier and he developed hydrocephalus. Xavier spent 4 months at the NICU in Primary Childrens Hospital in Salt Lake, undergoing several surgeries.

There is no cure for hydrocephalus. In severe untreated cases, the head continues to grow to abnormal sizes as the fluid keeps building in the head. There is no cure currently. It is treated by placing a shunt, or a valve of sorts in the brain, to drain the CSF so the pressure doesn't build and cause brain damage. Connected to the valve are two catheters. One catheter goes into the ventricle of the brain and the other goes into the abdomen where the fluid drains and is absorbed into the bloodstream.

“Hydrocephalus isn't as rare as you'd think,” says Mr. Bringhurst, “1 out of every 500 children are born with it. It's more common than down syndrome.”

Mr. Bringhurst was surprised at what little awareness there was and decided to do something about it. Professional Cable supplies all types of cables from Fiber Optic cables to Apple certified chargers and adapters. He decided to brand their retail line of cables “Xavier”, named after his son, and has partnered with several hydrocephalus charities to help raise awareness. Every Xavier package has information about hydrocephalus on it and has a blue ribbon stating that a portion of the proceeds goes to raise awareness and research for hydrocephalus. It's also on the front page of their website,

“I figured that I could do a little good with each cable we sell. Cables with a cause you might say,” said Bringhurst.

And doing good is what it's all about. Professional Cable/Xavier Cables is a Gold Sponsor at the Hydrocephalus Walk in Salt Lake Friday September 12th. All are invited to join the walk at Murray Park at 6 p.m. According to the Hydrocephalus Association, over 1 million people in the U.S. live with hydrocephalus. You can find out more:
