Production hike.

Placer Dome Inc. reported net earnings of $53.9 million or 23 cents per share for the nine-month period ending Sept. 30. The company's share of gold production rose to 1.2 million ounces at an average production cost of $227 U.S. per ounce. Gold sales for the nine months were $672 million at an average realized price $400 U.S. per ounce. The Campbell Mine achieved record gold production of 87,643 ounces in the third quarter as the result of higher grades and operation of the pressure oxidation plant commissioned in July.
