All but one of the 17 papers in this collection were selected from presentations at two international symposia at the October 2010 Materials Science and Technology Conference, held in Houston. They cover fiber composites; nanoceramics and composites; testing, characterization, and microstructure-property relationships; functionally graded materials; ceramic processing; composites processing; and directional solidification and microwave processing. Among the topics are high-temperature inter-laminar tension test method development for ceramic matrix composites, the effect of coating parameters on the electrodeposition of nickel containing nano-sized alumina particles, the influence of particle size distribution of Wollastonite on the mechanical properties of chemically bonded phosphate ceramics, thermally sprayed functionally graded materials, and engineered self-organized microstructures using directional solidification of eutectics.
