Probation for mum's kid scam.

A BENEFIT cheat who pocketed nearly pounds 17,000 by pretending to have 11 kids was put on probation and given community service yesterday.

Lisa Watson, 28, invented names and birthdays for her imaginary children, ranging in age from one to 13, including some supposedly born just days apart.

She also forged a bank statement to dupe the court into believing she was paying back the cash.

Sheriff Bill Taylor put her on probation for two years and ordered her to carry out 200 hours of community service when she appeared for sentencing at Dingwall Sheriff Court yesterday.

Bizarrely, although Watson, of Alness, Easter Ross, falsely claimed for 11 children, she did not claim benefit for her real ones.

She admitted making fraudulent claims to obtain working tax credits and child tax credits between July 2006 and May 2007, when she was just a mum-of-one. She now has two children.

She also admitted attempting to pervert justice by giving her lawyer a forged bank statement.
