Probate (non) service; & COMMENT DEBATE YOUR LETTERS TO THE NATIONAL NEWSPAPER OF WALES.

* SIR - I wrote to the Probate Registry of Wales, following my mother's death, to ask them to send me a set of forms so I could obtain probate.

It seemed logical to write to the "Probate Registry of Wales", but I now think that the agency should be disbanded as unfit for purpose - serving no purpose, useful or otherwise.

My letter was returned to me with an anonymous slip advising me: "to obtain the probate application forms either contact the Inland Revenue on 0845 3020 9200, or download the forms on "theprobateservice.go.uk" (unfortunately we no longer stock the forms)".

While we mess about with "Welsh Government" policies, it is not really good enough to have a body which calls itself "Probate Registry of Wales" failing to provide a public service.

The public sector in Wales is sliding backwards in quality rather than striving to achieve a standard fit for a devolved Wales, much less any "independent" Wales. RICHARD PAGE Llandrindod Wells
