Privilege motion regarding reinstatement of employees sent to Privilege Committee.

ISLAMABAD, April 17, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- Acting Chairman Senate Jan Muhammad Jamali on Friday sent the privilege motion to the Senates Privilege Committee against institutions, not reinstating the employees despite cabinets decision and Presidents Ordinance in this regard. Speaking on a point of order Senator Raza Rabbani regretted that the privilege motion moved by him during the last Senate session was referred to the same institutions against whom it was tabled. He said there was no provision in the rules to send the privilege motion to the concerned institutions. He said it had never happened in the history that a privilege motion was referred to the concerned institutions. He said the act was a breach of privilege of the Upper House and its member. Senator Rabbani asked the Acting Chairman Senate to name the person who referred his privilege motion to the concerned institutions and said that he would also table a privilege motion against the person who did this. On another point of order, Senator Ilyas Bilour said that his privilege motion was also referred to the concerned ministry. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Senator Dr. Babar Awan said that he had already stated in the House Business Advisory Committee that a privilege motion could not be sent to the concerned institutions for comments. He said that business of the House should be run according to laws. The Acting Chairman Senate informed the House that Chairman Senate had referred the privilege motion to the concerned institutions for comments. Upon this Opposition leader in the Senate Waseem Sajjad, Senator Ishaq Dar and Chaudhry Shujaat asked Raza Rabbani not to table a privilege motion against the Chairman Senate.
