The academy received the grant for its "Health is Wealth" Model Initiative, an experiential learning program that promotes learning, leadership development and success in the health sciences fields. The grant will enable students to participate in cooperative learning opportunities and to develop a website as well as use social media to inform and excite peers about community health concerns and initiatives and pursuing health science degrees and careers. PGCC is one of three organizations, out of 127 applicants, to receive grants totaling $100,000. Other awardees included The Arlington-Alexandra Coalition for the Homeless Distance Education & Training and DC Central Kitchen's Health Corners.
