Prime Minister should not fall under the ambit of Lokpal: Omar Abdullah.
"Once the Prime Minister demits office, he should definitely fall under the ambit of the Lokpal. Nobody should be given a blank chit and nobody's activities should be condoned. But the Prime Minister, while in the office, should not fall under the purview of the Lokpal. But this is an individual opinion. It is nor the opinion of this coalition (state government) or own party," said Abdullah.
"Corruption is huge matter of concern to every citizen of this country, regardless of what line of work they find themselves in. I am equally concerned as a next person about the issue of corruption and how it needs to be tackled. That having been said, I am also very conscious of the fact that ultimately Parliament is supreme and laws that have to be made, have to made by Parliament," he added.
Abdullah further said that hanging of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru could have adverse repercussions in Jammu and Kashmir.
"It is for the President to decide in her infinite wisdom as to what to do with this Afzal Guru case. As a Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, having seen the situation in the state over the last three years, I do have certain apprehensions about what could happen if Afzal Guru were hanged. I have made those apprehensions known to the Government of India from time to time," Abdullah told mediapersons in Jammu.
It was earlier reported that the Union Home Ministry has asked President Pratibha Devisingh Patil to reject the mercy petition of Afzal Guru, who was convicted of conspiracy in the December 2001 attack on the Parliament. (ANI)
