Primary pupil's pounds 27m lotto win.
A PRIMARY school pupil has scooped a pounds 27.6million lottery jackpot, it was revealed last night. His numbers came up on the Italian national Superenalotto draw on Tuesday.
The unnamed boy bought the ticket during his lunch break from a shop beside his school in Frattamaggiore, near Naples.
In Italy, it is illegal for children to gamble - but they are allowed to take part in the national lottery.
Lottery spokesman Raffaele Umbriano said: "It seems that a child has won the lottery. I am still waiting to meet the little winner."
Local woman Antonia di Alberto said: "Someone has to win and if it's a child, then good luck to the little lad.
"He's a very lucky boy and he and his family won't have to worry about money ever again. I suppose he'll be quite popular with his mates at school as well"I hope he decides to let people know who he is so we can have a huge party for him in the town."
A child winner raises many legal questions about the cash.
Lawyer Leonora Ricci said: "The money will have to be held in a trust until he is old enough to decide what to do with it.
"Presumably, his parents will be involved in deciding what purchases might be made before then - but then again maybe not. It is an interesting legal question."
The Italian Superenalotto, in which people choose six numbers out of 90, has gripped the country since it was launched in 1998.
In May this year, one winner scooped a pounds 72million jackpot.
It was Europe's biggest lottery prize until Ireland's Dolores McNamara, 50, of Garryowen, Limerick, won pounds 77million on the Euromillions lottery in July
