Priest's KKK killing honour.

AN Irish priest murdered by the Ku Klux Klan in Alabama is to be honoured by a new group.

Fr James Edwin Coyle from Athlone, Co Westmeath, was brutally murdered on August 11, 1921, at a time of extreme anti-Catholic feelings in US southern states.

But now the Father James Edwin Coyle Society has been founded in Alabama to promote understanding.

Fr Coyle was killed by a Methodist preacher who was also in the Ku Klux Klan after he discovered his daughter had converted to Catholicism.

Just hours before dying, Fr Coyle married Stephenson's daughter Ruth and a Puerto Rican Catholic.
