Price war heats up.

Analysts say customers were already getting better deals as German discount chain Aldi opened in Switzerland in late October.

The week before Aldi opened four stores near the German border in Weinfelden, Amriswil, Altenrhein, and Gebensdorf, Migros near-doubled its offering of budget products. Coop has also introduced a budget line.

Studies show Swiss consumers have paid between 30 and 100 per cent more than their European neighbours, depending on the competitiveness of the product sector. To find out why, check out, Competition hits the isle of high prices, on page 8.
