COMPOSER and musician Neil Campbell appears in concert at Liverpool Hope University tonight.

The classical guitar virtuoso will be joined by Sense Of Sound Choir's Perri Alleyne-Hughes at the event in the Hope Theatre at the new Capstone Building on the Shaw Street "Cultural Campus" in Everton.

Neil's music draws on classical, rock, folk, jazz and Spanish styles, often using technology to expand the sound and scope of the classical guitar.

A prolific composer, his work encompasses music for solo guitar, guitar and cello, and pieces for ensembles including his band The Neil Campbell Collective.

During 2009 his two compositions Ghost Stories - A Night Opera and Neil Campbell's Frankenstein (with The Neil Campbell Collective and Sense Of Sound Choir) were performed at St Luke's bombed out church, St George's Hall Small Concert Room, and at Birkenhead Priory as part of the International Guitar Festival of Great Britain.

This year his focus has returned to solo playing, including two event earlier this year at Liverpool's Unity Theatre.

"Tonight's concert will be an intimate experience in a new state-of-the-art theatre space at Liverpool Hope University's Creative Campus," he explains. "Aside from playing a set of my music for solo guitar, which is always great fun, what's personally very special to me is that, in collaboration with Perri, we'll be presenting some of the new music we've written together. "These new songs are emotional, impressionistic, jazz-tinged compositions with expressive vocals and instrumental excursions for guitar.

"The new music has also given me the opportunity to explore technology such as loops and digital effects to allow one guitarist to create the impression of an entire ensemble."

Perri Alleyne-Hughes is a vocalist, composer, choral music director and arranger. In 2006 Sense Of Sound were runners up in BBC Radio 3's Choir of the Year competition, and in 2008 came in the top six of the BBC's choral competition Last Choir Standing.

Supporting tonight's concert will be a short performance from the ensemble of the newly formed Liverpool Guitar Society.. Neil Campbell in Concert at the Capstone Building tonight at 8pm.
