Preview; DANCE 3 Unity.
THE National Dance Network presents a triple bill at the Unity theatre next week.
Dance3 features new work from the next generation of dance-makers.
Audiences can expect dance with a difference, something the network is describing as "a new dimension".
The trio of bite-sized performances aim to showcase the best up-and-coming professional choreographers and their collaborators in one evening.
Three talented artists let their imaginations run riot creating compelling and varied performances mixing physical brilliance, music and film.
The evening on the Unity's stage proper will be accompanied by A Blank Canvas, a foyer installation by Heather Eddington's State of Flux dance film company, blending dance, film and animation.
The three dance pieces are 4m2, an energetic and engaging physical theatre performance from choreographers Claire Cunningham and Jose Agudo, combining real stories, a stunning filmic backdrop and multi-layered soundscape by Scanner.
In Cabin Fever by Tom Dale, a character is lost in a world of their own, their cabin fever and mental loops producing an exhilarating and hypnotic performance.
The expressive piece of physical work becomes a metaphor for a contemporary state of mind.
Finally A Mind as Beautiful by ex Phoenix dancer Douglas Thorpe is billed as "blistering and brutal" and a sometimes "achingly tender" exploration of the experience of schizophrenia.
The piece combines the trademark speed, rhythm and precision of Thorpe's choreography with a moving spoken-word narrative.
Dance 3 is part of the Leap 2010 festival organised by Merseyside Dance Initiative and celebrating its 18th anniversary with a year of dance events.
The first six months alone will see more than 30 events take place both in traditional theatres and other alternative spaces both indoors and out.
