Preston Williams New AFFI Chairman; Frank Cassata is Top NFFA Officer

Preston Williams, president of Southern Frozen Foods, Montezuma, Ga., has been elected 1989 chairman of the board of the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI). He replaces Ronald H. Dykehouse, executive vice president of Amfac Inc., San Francisco, Calif.

Williams assumed power during the organization's annual meeting held at the recent National Frozen Food Convention in Chicago. Elected to serve with him as first vice chairman was Steven A. McNeil, vice president and group general manager for frozen foods at Campbell Soup Co., Camden, N.J. Named second vice chairman was Ronald L. Cowan, vice president of Carnation Company's processed potato division, Los Angeles, Calif.

The following were elected to AFFI's board of directors: Edward H. Coale, Readi-Bake Inc., Grand Rapids, Mich.; Larry W. Cope, Clear Springs Trout Co., Buhl, Idaho; Frank Elsener, John Labatt Foods Inc., Eugene, Oregon; David Jennings, Stouffer Foods Corp., Solon, Ohio; Harry S. Robinson, The Coca-Cola Co. Foods Division, Houston, Texas; James Seabrook, Seabrook Brothers & Sons Inc., Seabrook, N.J.; William Smittcamp, Wawona Frozen Foods, Clovis, Calif; Arthur E. Symons Jr., Symons Frozen Foods Inc., Centalia, Wash.

In one of the first duties performed by new AFFI Chairman Williams, Campbell Soup's McNeil was named to head up the organization's newly created Refrigerated Foods Committee. Serving with him will be representatives from the following concerns: McCormick & Co., Freezer Queen Foods, Carnation Co., Nestle', Coca-Cola Foods, Sysco Corp., General Foods Corp., Clear Springs Trout Co., Christian Salvesen.

"We view this as a positive step toward recognizing the many issues impacting refrigerated foods," said AFFI President Tom House. "Committee work will include issues of immediate concern as well as those that may lead to a much larger role in the future, not excluding a reorganization of what is now AFFI."

North America's other leading frozen food trade group, the National Frozen Food Association, also unveiled its new officer slate at the convention. Elected chairman was Frank Cassata of Food Associates, Kearny, N.J., while Jules Rose of Sloan's Supermarkets, New York, N.Y., became chairman-elect.

Other NFFA brass tapped included: A. Jack Dale of Campbell Sales Co., Camden, N.J., senior vice chairman; Bo Strong of Kraft Food-service, Glenview, Ill., vice chairman-foodservice; Arthur Patch of Safeway Stores, Inc., Oakland Calif., vice chairman-retail; Monte Thornton of Publix Super Markets, Lakeland, Fla., secretary; Frank Revord of Continental Freezers of Illinois, Chicago, Ill., treasurer.
