Ex-Sox LaFrancois joins Tornadoes' staff
Former Red Sox catcher Roger LaFrancois has joined the Worcester Tornadoes' coaching staff, while Bobby Ojeda has stepped aside as the team's pitching coach and will serve as special adviser to the general manager and roving pitching instructor. LaFrancois and Tornadoes manager Rich Gedman were in the same Sox draft class (1977) and came up through the system together. LaFrancois was 4 for 10 with the Red Sox in 1982.
The Kansas City Royals requested release waivers on former Red Sox right-hander Hideo Nomo, who was designated for assignment on Sunday. The 39-year-old Nomo had an 18.69 ERA in three relief appearances, allowing nine runs and 10 hits, including three home runs, in 4-1/3 innings.
