The Worcester Tornadoes signed left-hander Jake Ociesa yesterday. Ociesa pitched in the San Diego Padres system last year, going 0-2 in 12 relief appearances, giving up 12 hits and 13 earned runs in 12 innings for Padres' rookie and Class-A teams.
The Oakland Athletics agreed to terms with designated hitter Frank Thomas. Oakland will be on the hook only for about $337,000 - a prorated share of the $390,000 minimum.

The Boston Bruins have assigned forwards Vladimir Sobotka and Petteri Nokelainen to their AHL affiliate in Providence. The team announced they will join the minor league team for AHL postseason. Providence opens its Atlantic Division finals series against Portland at home tomorrow.
Larry Brown has left the 76ers again with the intent to pursue a coaching job at the NBA or college level. Brown re-signed as Philadelphia's executive vice president after barely two years on the job. Brown rejoined the Sixers in January 2007 more than three years after he left his coaching job to take the same position in Detroit. He led the Sixers to the 2001 NBA Finals.
The Denver Broncos acquired defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson from the New York Jets for a conditional pick in the 2009 draft. Robertson, the fourth overall pick in the 2003 draft from Kentucky, spent five inconsistent seasons with the Jets.
