The restated Kumtor project agreement of 2009 sets a fixed annual payment of $310,000 for environmental pollution, environmental protection expert Dinara Kutmanova told a press conference in AKIpress on April 19. "For comparison I want to tell you the President of the Centerra Gold Inc. receives $3.9 million annual salary. The entire payment for environmental damage for Kyrgyzstan - when glaciers are cut away, water is used for free - makes one monthly pay of the Centerra President," the expert said. There is no such thing in international practice, Dinara Kutmanova stated. Throughout the world a polluter pays for the actual size of damage. A polluter pays for the actual size of made waste, emissions, discharge, she explained. "What is done in Kumtor case, there is no such precedent in the world practice, she concluded.
