President Jokowi Inaugurates Gelora Bung Karno Stadium After Being Renovated.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Sunday (1/14) inaugurated Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (SUGBK) in Senayan, Jakarta, after its major renovation done.

Prior to the inauguration, the president who arrived at SUGBK at 18:10 pm, inspected the panels and the mockup of SUGBK development first.

Then, the president and Vice President Jusuf Kalla went to the inauguration ceremony accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani, State Secretary Minister Pratikno, Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono and PSSI Chairman Edy Rahmayadi.

'By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahmanirrahim and with the grace of God Almighty, this afternoon I inaugurate the majorly renovated Bung Karno Stadium and declare the start of its use,' said president who then signed the inscription of the SUGBK inauguration.

After the inauguration, the president, vice president and the ministers headed for the royal box to watch the friendly soccer match of Indonesian National Team against the Icelandic National Team.

The president praised the new face of SUGBK. 'I think it's very good. Earlier the Iceland coach also said to me that the SUGBK stadium is very large and very good,' he told the reporters after watching the friendly match.

The friendly match ended with a score of 4-1 to Iceland National Team. Commenting on the score, the president said it was a warm-up to find out the strengths and weaknesses of the Indonesian National Team.

'From the game we know which parts need to be fixed, so that later we will perform better in the other matches, especially the Asian Games,' said the head of state.

The president further said it was important to participate in a competition regularly to improve the performance whether at junior or senior level.

'I think we have to play in the match again and again, as well as to keep practicing. Yes, that is what must be done,' said the president.
