President Bakiev: Our duty is to pass Aitmatov's works to next generation.
The memorial event took place today in the Ata Beit memorial cemetery in memory of the 80th anniversary of writer Chinghiz Aitmatov. President Kurmanbek Bakiev, State Secretary Nur uulu Dosbol, Chief of President's Administration Medet Sadrykulov, First Vice Prime Minister Iskenderbek Aidaraliev, Culture Minister Sultan Raev, other officials, family members and colleagues of the writer attended this event.President Bakiev laid a wreath to the victims of the Stalin's repressions buried there and to the tomb of Chinghiz Aitmatov. After the prayer the President visited the museum of the memorial cemetery and outlined the arrangements made to perpetuate the memory of the great writer. "Today is the anniversary of the great son of the Kyrgyz people, Chinghiz Aitmatov. We were preparing for this anniversary, we hoped to celebrate it together with Chinghiz Torekulovich, but unfortunately, we have lost a great writer and a great thinker. This year was proclaimed as the year of Chinghiz Aitmatov. This is for the first time in history of Kyrgyzstan, when a year proclaimed in honor of some person. Many forums, conferences, performances devoted to Aitmatov's works were organized during this year," President Bakiev said. "Our duty is to pass works of our great writer to the youth, next generation. We were lucky to be his contemporaries. We have grown on his works that were targeted at humanism, love to everything wonderful, clean and light.
