Prehistoric fish fingers discovered; SCIENCE.

FISH had fingers 380 million years ago, scientists have claimed.

Researchers have traced the origins of our fingers and toes to the fossils of ancient fish - far earlier than previously thought.

Scientists at Uppsala University, Sweden, used CT scans to examine the fossils of panderichthys - a transitional animal halfway between a fish and a tetrapod.

The journal Nature said they revealed the Panderichthys fins had rudimentary fingers in its fins.

Researcher Catherine Boisvert: "This was the key piece of the puzzle that confirms that rudimentary fingers were already present in ancestors of tetrapods.
