Pregnancy and Childbirth Tips.
Reviewed by Karen Pestlin, CCE, Director of ALACE Teacher Training
Pregnancy and Childbirth Tips is a relatively new book brought to us out of Canada by childbirth educator Gail J. Dahl. After going through the experience of childbirth herself and experiencing frustration with the amount of information available for pregnant woman wanting a healthy, safe, natural childbirth, Gail gave birth to the idea of this book. She set out by advertising in her local newspaper stating, "I will pay you for your practical tips in pregnancy and childbirth." The response of over 200 women was overwhelming, and became the impetus for the advice and wisdom found in this book.
Although the book is nicely organized by topics to consider month by month in pregnancy, I found the layout a bit disjointed and hard to follow. You will discover, however, a vast amount of information between the front and back cover. Most impressive is the Childbirth Resource Directory for Canada and the United States (very extensive for Canada). This section alone would a great reason to add this book to your lending library.
Pregnancy and Childbirth Tips does not really put forth any new approach or innovative ideas for birthing, but it does compile a list of good, healthy, and helpful tips for pregnant women, offering a one-stop shopping approach for consumers.
