Praise for uni.

A university has won backing to be part of the UK's first centre aimed at improving treatments for muscle diseases.

Newcastle University's Neuromuscular Group has been chosen to be involved in the Medical Research Council's first research centre for the study of disabling, muscle-wasting neuromuscular diseases, such as muscular dystrophy.

The MRC Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases is a joint initiative between the university, the Institute of Neurology at University College London and the Institute of Child Health.

The group was selected to go for the venture after the MRC's call for proposals for centres focussing on research and is one of seven successful bids from UK universities.
