The purpose of this text by Stocker (founder of the Wildlife Hospital Trust, a British wildlife teaching hospital) is to introduce the support service procedures and techniques that enable the veterinary nurse or rehabilitator to assist the wildlife veterinary surgeon in diagnosis, prescription, and surgical intervention. His emphasis is on those areas of veterinary medicine that are unique to wildlife care and on core disciplines of wildlife care: rescue, first aid, rehabilitation, and release. Following general treatment of fluid therapy, wound management, fracture management, and avian and mammalian wildlife disease, he present chapters dealing with specific categories of animals, all of which are based on his experiences with British wildlife.
