Powerful quakes jolt Maguindanao, Davao Occidental, Surigao del Norte.

BUTUAN CITY - Three powerful earthquakes jolted Maguindanao, Davao Occidental, and Surigao del Norte provinces, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

However, the state agency said the earthquakes did not inflict any damage or injury.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said a 5.9 magnitude tremor was registered at 2:02 a.m. today, May 11, 2018.

The epicenter was plotted 14 kilometers (km) southeast of South Upi, Maguindanao province.

The tremor had a depth of 527 km.

At 4:06 a.m. on the same day (May 11), a 4.7 magnitude earthquake was also recorded.

The epicenter was traced 123 km southeast of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental province, with a depth of 86 km.

Meanwhile, a magnitude 5.7 tremor was registered at 7:57 p.m. on Thursday (May 10), Phivolcs said.

The epicenter was only located 9 km southwest of LIBJO (Albor), Surigao del Norte province.

The earthquake had a depth of 22 km.

Intensity V was registered in Libjo (Albor), Surigao Del Norte; Surigao City; Guiuan, Mercedes and Salcedo, Eastern Samar; San Jose, Dinagat Island; - Intensity IV in Carrascal and Cantilan, Surigao Del Sur; Lawaan, Giporlos, General Macarthur; Llorente, Maydolong, and San Julian, Eastern Samar; Butuan City; San Francisco, San Juan, Liloan and Hinunangan, Southern Leyte; Tolosa, Leyte; Placer and Mainit, Surigao Del Norte; Rosario, Agusan del Sur; - Intensity III was in Baybay City, Dulag, Palo and Pastrana, Leyte; Borongan and Dolores, Eastern Samar; Gingoog, Misamis Oriental; Maasin and Sogod, Southern Leyte; Tacloban City; San Miguel, Surigao Del Sur; Iligan City; Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands; - Intensity II- Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur; Cagayan De Oro City; Oras, Eastern Samar; Camiguin Island; while Intensity I was in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental; and Bislig City.

The three tremors were tectonic in origin, the state agency added.
