Power & influence gala: leaders shine At NPT.

Nonprofit sector leaders, event sponsors and staff of The NonProfit Times gathered at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. recently to salute the 2009 NPT Power & Influence Top 50 honoree. The 50 most influential leaders were featured in the August 1 issue of The NonProfit Times.

The gala featured a mix of repeat honorees, among them Diana Aviv of Independent Sector, Kelly Browning of the American Institute for Cancer Research and the Direct Marketing Association and H. Art Taylor of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance. Among the first timers was Michael Brown, CEO & co-founder, City Year, Inc., Sharon Burns, chief information officer, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and Karen Pittman, CEO, The Forum for Youth Investment.

This year's keynote speaker was H. James Towey, president of St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. and former Assistant to the President of the United States and director of the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives at the White House.
