Powell has heart operation; IN BRIEF.

BRENDAN POWELL is hoping to be out of hospital this week after undergoing a minor operation to clear a blockage in an artery near to his heart.

The Lambourn-based trainer underwent surgery, which involved the insertion of a tube, at Bristol Royal Infirmary.

He has been transferred to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, and said yesterday morning: "I'm feeling a lot better and hope they'll let me go home either tomorrow or Saturday. It seems I had the equivalent of a minor heart attack, but they've done a great job and I'm already on the mend."
