Postmortem confirms MQM man was tortured.

KARACHI -- The postmortem report of Aftab Ahmed has confirmed that coordinator of MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar was subjected to severe torture during interrogation.

According to postmortem report a copy of which is available with The Frontier Post, around 35 to 40pc of the body surface found congested due to multiple bruises. The cause of death has been reserved in the postmortem report till the histopathological and chemical examiner's report is completed.

The memorandum of postmortem examination was held at the Sindh medical college mortuary on the dead body of Aftab Ahmed So of Reyatullah by ), Dr Aijaz Ahmed medical legal officer (MLO) Jinnah Postgraduate medical center (JPMC), Dr Sonomal of JSMU and Dr Kaleem Shaikh, additional police surgeon JMPC on May 3, 2016.

According to report multiple bruises found which are variable in sizes in different regions of the body. Redish and redish black in colour, some found overlapping each other.

Ahmed's body also had multiple abrasions, with patches of skin missing. His left foot's big toe nail was displaced from its anatomical position. Deep congestion with swelling was also noted around both his ankle joints, said the report. Though it still to be ascertain whether torture was cause of death or the MQM worker had died of heart attack, on day of his demise, Dr Seemi Jamali, head of emergency at JPMC, said he died of heart attack whereas his sugar level was also low.

She said Ahmed was admitted to the hospital at around 7am on Tuesday. He died at around 7:45am after doctors failed to revive him, she said. According to postmortem report his examination was kicked of 7:55am and completed by 4pm in the evening the same day.

Though Rangers and Doctors both insisted Aftab Ahmed had died of heart attack, MQM claimed that its worker had breathed his last after he failed to bear worst torture. Later, when photos of his body with torture marks appeared, DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akber accepted that the deceased MQM worker was tortured by Rangers in custody and vowed that strict action will be taken against those responsible for misconduct.

COAS has directed to hold an inquiry to find out truth in the case of Aftab Ahmed, who died in Karachi yesterday. He instructed to ensure that justice must be done, a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday said.

Earlier, a press release issued by Pakistan Rangers Sindh stated that a high level committee has been formed on the directives of DG Rangers to assess the cause of Aftab Ahmed.

The personnel being likely involved in the incident have been suspended, the statement reads, adding that the probe committee will be headed by Rangers sector commander and the committee will bring the facts to fore earliest.

Arrested for his involvement in different crimes, the accused Aftab Ahmed passed away in Karachi. According to MQM, DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akber himself phoned to Dr Farooq Sattar to collect the body of worker who has passed of heart attack during the treatment. Rangers and hospital sources also claimed that Ahmed had died of heart attack. However, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) alleged that former coordinator of Dr Farooq Sattar has been killed during custody.

The accused Aftab Ahmed, who was arrested for his involvement in various crimes, and who given into 90-day custody of Rangers by anti-terrorism court on Monday, complained of chest pain early on Tuesday morning upon which he was rushed to hospital where he died after his heart beat stopped, a statement issued by Sindh Rangers reads. According to assistant police surgeon Dr Kaleem Shaikh, Aftab Ahmed was brought to Jinnah Hospital at 7:55am on Tuesday morning and he breathed his last at 8:20pm, almost 25 minutes after he was brought to hospital.

Aftab Ahmed was reportedly detained by law enforcement personnel in plainclothes during a raid near Mukka Chowk in Federal B Area on Sunday evening.

Meantime, in his twitter message, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has declared that the torture and death of Aftab Ahmed in state custody was totally unacceptable. The PTI Chairman Imran Khan has also condemned the Rangers torture on Aftab Ahmed.
