Postman threatened by gunman.

A teenage gunman threatened a postman as he emptied a box of mail on a street corner - because he wanted a letter he had posted back.

The youth threatened the postman with a gun after the victim refused to give him a letter from the box. The youngster, who was aged 16 or 17, was standing in front of the post box on Exeter Road, Smethwick, Sandwell, when the 20-year-old turned up in a Royal Mail van to make a collection.

The victim asked the youngster to move aside and advised him to contact the main office about retrieving a letter he had posted.

But as he unlocked the post box the assailant tried to grab the mail from inside. The postman managed to close the door and ran to his van when the youth pulled out a handgun from underneath his jacket. The postman escaped unhurt and the gun was not fired.

The gunman is described as black, about 5ft 6ins tall with short black hair and clean shaven.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack which took place at about 1.30pm on April 28.
