Portugal sink the Spanish.

Byline: By Keith Jackson

PORTUGAL fans went loco last night as the Euro 2004 hosts beat Spain 1-0 to go through to the last eight.

Nuno Gomes' super strike in Lisbon's Estadio Jose Alvalade was all the sweeter because their first ever victory over Spain in a competitive game sent their rivals out.

Portugal may now face England in the quarter finals if Sven-Goran Eriksson's team beat Croatia tonight.

Greece, who finished second in group A, also go through.
