Pork Products Recalled For Listeria Concern.
Just days after (https://www.ibtimes.com/chicken-recall-2019-perdue-recalls-chicken-tenders-over-wheat-allergen-2828715) Perdue Foods recalled 495 pounds of Simply Smart Organics chicken for a wheat allergen that was not declared on the label, (https://www.fsis.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsis/topics/recalls-and-public-health-alerts/recall-case-archive/archive/2019/recall-095-2019-release) Fisher Packing Company is recalling 744 pounds of ham and Canadian bacon products that may be contaminated with Listeria.
The ready-to-eat pork products were packaged on Aug. 27 and were contained in vacuum-sealed packages of varying weights. The recalled pork includes Fisher Meats Old-Fashion Smoked Ham with a lot code of 19239 on the label, Fisher Meats Smoked Ham Shanks With Natural Juices with a lot code of 19239 on the label, and Fisher Meats Canadian Bacon with a lot code of 19239 on the label and a freeze by date of 11/25/19.
The affected pork products have an establishment number of 74SEIN inside the USDA mark of inspection. The recalled ham and Canadian bacon were shipped to retail locations in Indiana.

Consumers should check their refrigerators and freezers for the recalled ham and Canadian bacon products. They should not be consumed. They should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Fisher Packing discovered that Listeria was present in the meat during sampling of the pork products. The company has not received any reports of adverse reaction due to the consumption of the recalled pork. Individuals that are concerned about illness or injury from the recalled meat should contact their healthcare provider.
Listeria infection can be serious in elderly adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Listeria can cause symptoms of fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions with diarrhea or other gastrointestinal issues.
Listeria infection in pregnant women can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infections in newborns. Listeria can also cause serious and fatal infections in elderly adults and those with weakened immune systems, including flu-like symptoms. It can be treated with antibiotics. Individuals that have Listeria symptoms should seek medical attention from their healthcare provider.
