Pope names two Lebanese priests as bishops.

BEIRUT: Pope Francis named two Maronite priests as bishops Wednesday in Australia and Argentina. Father Antoine Tarabay was appointed Bishop of the Eparchy of Saint Maroun of Sydney in Australia.

The bishop-elect, who was previously a superior in the Saint Charbel Convent, hails from Tannourine in Batroun, and was ordained to priesthood in 1993.

He succeeds Bishop d Abi Karam, who retired. Father Habib Shamieh was appointed an apostolic administrator of the Eparchy of San Charbel of Buenos Aires in Argentina, succeeding the retiring Bishop Charbel George Merhi.

Shamieh was born in Beirut and was ordained in 1992, and was previously novice master of the Mariamite Maronite Order in Lebanon. Following the announcement, the two newly named bishops were congratulated by a host of civic and religious groups.
