Pope files revealed.

Byline: By NICK PISA

SECRET Vatican files detailing the Church's dealings with the Nazi party will be made public today.

More than 30,000 files containing a million sheets of paper will be made available after being given the clearance from German-born Pope Benedict XVI.

Vatican experts say that there will be significant documents in the archives including a letter that Pope Pius XI commissioned to denounce racism but which was never published.

Professor John Pollard, a Vatican expert at Cambridge University, said: "These documents will contain Pope Pius XI's views on racism and what is contained within those documents is very significant.

"What will also be interesting is documents regarding Adolf Hitler - Pope Pius XI regarded him as the Devil incarnate."
