Pool cars go green.

ISLANDERS are to get hydrogenpowered cars in an eco-friendly bid to cut fuel costs.

The vehicles will be used as pool cars for Lewis council staff and will also be used for education and public awareness campaigns.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council) yesterday announced their deal with green energy giants Air Products.

They will also provide a fuelling station from October.

Meanwhile, the high cost of fuel in the islands - up to pounds 1.38 a litre for diesel - is to be debated in the Scottish parliament later this month after Western Isles MSP Alasdair Allan raised the issue.
