Politics - Paola after meeting Berri: Italy committed to Lebanon's democracy.

NNA - 27/1/2012 Italian Defense Minister Jiampaolo Di Paola expressed Italy's unswerving commitment to friendship with Lebanon and its people, saying Italy is committed to Lebanon's peace, democracy and freedom.

Di Paola, currently on a visit to Lebanon, was speaking in the wake of his meeting with Speaker of the House Nabih Berri at Ein Tineh residence on Friday afternoon, in presence of Italian Vice Foreign Minister Stevan Di Mistura and Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Giusepe Morabito.

Berri and Di Paola tackled the current developments in the region, bilateral relations and the situation in the South. Talks also dwelt on the work of UNIFIL notably that the new commander of these forces is of an Italian nationality General Paolo Serra.

"We are committed to UNIFIL and stability in Lebanon", Di Paola said, indicating that Lebanon constitutes a model of stability and democracy in the region.

On the other hand, Speaker Berri met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban where they boarded the latest developments and bilateral relations.

Among Speaker Berri's itinerant visitors for today has been Central Inspection Head Judge George Awwad.
