Politicians from both parties have failed us.

Unfortunately, both Republicans and Democrats are to blame for the U.S. borrowing limit being raised to $17.1 trillion. This is shameful of any elected official currently in Washington. Our nation is borrowing money we don't have and can't pay back.

One of the purposes of elected officials, whether Democrats, Republicans, or independents, is to find ways to save taxpayer dollars, not to create unnecessary spending. How long can the American people stand this?

I say, no more. Our Founding Fathers wanted debate in this country. They would be rolling in their graves to know how partisan and bloated government is. People think debate is bad for the government. It is not. Debate shows that the government can function.

Some elected officials promised to lower the debt, but voted to raise the debt. This has taken an extreme toll on the average Joe taxpayer, especially the middle class. Yet, the officials we elect to go down to Washington, D.C., continue to raise the debt, and vote to continue extreme and absolutely unnecessary tolls on the American people.

And, while our elected officials continue to cause harm to average Americans, they get extended vacation time and increased pay. They should not be getting pay increases or extended vacation time if they cause harm and financial damage to the people who voted for them.

As an aspiring politician in the area, I say we need to make our voices heard loud and clear, to both Republicans and Democrats. We cannot let this continue.
