Political handbook of the world 2008.

Ed. by Arthur S. Banks et al.

CQ Press

1827 pages

Earlier editions are cited in Guide to Reference books, Public Library catalog, and Resources for College Libraries, 3d ed.. Choice, in Sept. 2007, recommends the 2005-2006 edition "for all levels." Each country entry consists of a lengthy description of the country's political background, constitution and government, current issues, and political parties and groups, including rebel groups. The political discussion is central, with details on long-standing conflicts, new parties and coalitions, and current crises and issues. Entries conclude with a description of the legislature, a list of its members, a description of the country's communications, and a list of intergovernmental representation. The material is arranged alphabetically by country, with a small map, brief statistical information and a short description of its geography, provided for each. This is a venerable classic, thorough and up-to-date.
