Police quiz Gosling on 'mercy kill' INVESTIGATION.

Byline: ROD CHAYTOR

VETERAN broadcaster Ray Gosling was last night being quizzed over the suspected murder of a former gay lover.

In a BBC interview, recorded three months ago but broadcast on East Midlands TV on Monday, Mr Gosling wept as he confessed to the "mercy killing" of a young man as he lay dying of Aids.

The broadcaster, from Nottingham, admitted: "I picked up the pillow and smothered him to death."

Mr Gosling, 70, did not reveal the name of the lover or when and where t h e a l leged killing happened, but admitted it was a "long time ago".

Mr Gosling's solicitor said: "The police have interviewed a number of witnesses and are going over documents. That may mean the inquiry runs for quite a few days and it may be that Ray will remain in custody for that time."
