Police officer in clash with robber

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): one police officer and a thief were perished in a clash in Mazar-i-Sharif, provincial capital of northern Balkh province.

Brig. General Salahuddin Sultan, crime branch police chief in Balkh province told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash took place in second police district of Mazar city.

He said a group of five thieves confronted police and threw grenades on police which killed one cop.

Sultan said in counter firing one thief was killed and a pistol was also captured.

Sher Jan Durani, media head of Balkh police said thieves wanted to rob houses in Yakh Kunda area of Mazar city.

Security officials in Balkh province said over 10 thieves have been killed in clashes with police and same numbers have been arrested during the current year.
