Police link model's murder to sex attack.

Model Sally Anne Bowman was murdered by a sex attacker who had struck at least once before, police said yesterday.

The blonde 18-year-old was stabbed and sexually assaulted before her body was found on the pavement next to a skip outside her home in Croydon, south London, on Sunday morning. Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Cundy, leading the investigation into the murder, said officers were linking it to another sex attack on a woman in nearby Purley in 2001.

The two crimes have been forensically connected, and although a knife was not used in the first incident, the description given by the victim - who survived - was very similar to the man officers are seeking for the murder of Sally Anne.

Mr Cundy appealed for people who had been victims of sex crimes in the area to come forward: "Obviously it's possible that the suspect has committed other crimes since 2001.

"I would like to urge women in south Croydon and the Purley area to take extra care
