Police hunt for 'Lord and Lady Gascombe'.

Police are investigating the sudden disappearance of a Midland pub landlord and his wife who called themselves Lord and Lady Gascombe after buying the title.

The aristocracy-loving Gloucester publican - real name Perry Harber - and his wife, Donna, suddenly let the city's TNT pub and The Junction pub in Stroud, leaving behind staf who claimed they were owed wages.

The couple's sudden departure from the businesses was reported to police by brewers Whitbread.

A brewery spokesman said 42-year-old Mr Harber and his 28-year-old wife "relinquished their hold" on the business suddenly last week and their whereabouts were not known.

"It is not possible at this stage to put an exact figure on how much is owed and to whom and what exactly is missing but we are investigating this matter thoroughly and hoping to resolve the situation quickly," he said.

Mr Graham Harris, the present licensee of the TNT, in Eastgate Street, Gloucester, said: "None of the takings have gone through the books since December last year and some staff wages cheques have bounced. It does not make sense as the pubs were doing well."

Mr Harris said he believed Mr Harber, who he had known for 25 years, had business interests in Spain.

Managers at the two pubs, Michael and Marion Radford at the TNT, and Tony and Christine Porter at The Junction, claimed they had lodged pounds 1,000 bonds with the couple.
