A 35-YEAR-OLD man arrested on suspicion of murdering his parents has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The bodies of Alan and Stella Scott were found at their home in Redington Road, Allerton, shortly after 2pm on Tuesday.

Police later arrested their son, Alan Joseph Scott, at the scene on suspicion of murder.

He was sectioned yesterday under the Mental Health Act.

A police spokesman said: "We are not able to interview him until the medical authorities say he is well enough."

The formal identification of the couple, and a post mortem to confirm how they died, is not due to take place until today.

According to neighbours, the 35-year-old part-time DJ was seen "acting strangely" on nearby Allerton golf course just hours before the bodies were found.

His bedsit home in Whitney Road, Woolton, was yesterday cordoned off and a police car parked outside.

The length of Redington Road was also closed as a forensic team gathered evidence.

Detectives with teams of dogs scoured the nearby golf course in the search for further evidence.

Shocked neighbours expressed sadness and horror at the tragedy, but revealed that Scott's parents had struggled to cope with his mental illness.

It is believed they were left dead in their semi-detached home overnight, and that a weapon was used in the attack.

Stella Scott, 59, was an award-winning member of Liverpool City Council's children's services team and had worked for the authority since 1978.

Sandra Campbell, assistant executive director of children's services at Liverpool city council, said: "Stella was an extremely valued and important part of the disabled children's team, where she worked as a domestic assistant helping provide care for youngsters on short-term breaks.

"Such was her dedication to her job that she won a council 'Be Proud' award in 2006 after being nominated as an 'icon' by her colleagues.

"Everyone who knew her is absolutely devastated and upset at what has happened, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of Stella and her husband."
